MESA PC/104 CPU INFORMATION

4C81 - WIRELESS ORIENTED PC/104-PCI CPU

4C81 CPU

The 4C81 is a low cost, low power consumption ARM based PC104-PCI CPU. Designed for wired or wireless networked applications, the 4C81 has two 10/100 baseT Ethernet interfaces and a slot for a WI-FI card or other Mini-PCI device.   The 166 MHz CPU card consumes less than 2 watts total from a single 5V supply,  making Solar powered applications practical.  System resources include 32M or 64M of RAM and 32M to 128M of NAND Flash memory and an RS-232 serial port..   The Ethernet interfaces generates hardware TCP checksums allowing close to wire speed routing through the 4C81. An optional on card 200K or 400K gate Spartan3 FPGA with 32 bit local bus connection provides flexible user I/O or a custom processing accelerator.  The FPGA has 36 User I/O pins available, 24 on a standard 50 pin header with interleaved grounds. This connector is compatible with Mesa's Anything-IO expansion cards including the 7I30, 7I32, 7I33, 7I34, 7I37. The other FPGA I/O connector provides 12 2.5V IO pins useable as 6 LVDS differential pairs. The model without FPGA has 36 5V tolerant I/O bits implemented in a CPLD.  The 4C81 can run Linux or NetBSD and has a jumper selectable netboot option with NFS support to allow simple system debug and software development. Applications include wired and wireless routing, remote sensing and data aquisition, robotics, remote digital I/O, motion control (With SoftDMC multi axis motion controller in FPGA), web based remote control systems, antenna and camera pointing systems.

4C62 - 5X86 CPU PC104/PLUS CPU  with SVGA video, IDE flash, 100BT Ethernet

4C62 picture

The 4C62 is a high performance, high integration 5X86 based PC/104-PLUS CPU card. The 4C62 has built-in SVGA video that shares system memory (UMA) for low cost and high performance. The built-in SVGA video supports resolutions up to1024x768 by 24 bits and video memory sizes from 512K to 4096K. The built-in SVGA video can be disabled if desired. System memory can be 32M or 64M bytes, depending on 4C62 model. System memory is 64 bits wide for high performance. A 32 to 128M byte IDE flash drive is built into the 4C62. Since the built-in flash drive is IDE compatible, no special drivers are needed, regardless of operating system. An external IDE interface is also provided. IDE interfaces are PCI based for high performance. The on card PCI based 100 baseT ethernet provides network connectivity. Standard I/O includes two 16C550 compatible RS-232 serial ports. One of the ports can be configured for RS-485 type interface. A bi-directional EPP/ECP/IEEE1284 compliant parallel port is provided, as are a standard keyboard interface, a PS/2 type mouse interface and 2 USB ports. The 4C62s watchdog timer and EEPROM BIOS setup storage plus industrial temperature range capability make the 4C62 well suited to embedded applications.

4C28 - 386SX compatible CPU with Ethernet, IDE, IDE flash, and A-D

4C28-386SX

The 4C28 is a high integration, low power, AT compatible CPU implemented on the PC/104 bus. With the built-in 10BaseT Ethernet interface, the 4C28 is ideally suited to network accessible systems such as embedded web servers. The 4C28 has a 40 MHz 386SX compatible CPU/chipset. System RAM can be 2, 4, or 8M bytes depending on model. The on card flash disk can be 8, or 16M bytes. Since the on card flash drive is hardware IDE compatible, no special ROMS or drivers are needed and the 4C28 supports most operating systems directly. A minimal Linux installation that supports the 4C28 hardware and runs from the flash drive is available from Mesa. The 4C28 BIOS EPROM uses flash memory to allow field upgrades without physical access to the 4C28 card. The BIOS can be configured to skip various device probes at startup, speeding system boot-up in embedded applications. The 4C28 BIOS is normally 128K bytes but can be extended to 256K bytes to accommodate Datalight ROM-DOS or other built in operating systems. Datalight ROM-DOS is available as a 4C28 option. On card 4C28 I/O includes two 16C550 type RS-232 serial ports, a bi-directional parallel port, a floppy interface, an IDE interface, a high performance CS8900 based 10BaseT Ethernet interface and an 8 input 12 bit A-D converter. The Ethernet interface has a remote, panel mount RJ-45 connector to simplify system packaging. The second serial port can optionally be configured for an RS-485 interface. Configuration storage is provided by an EEPROM, which is much more resistant to inadvertent corruption than the battery backed CMOS configuration storage in a standard AT. 4C28 power consumption is 3W maximum with CPU running and down to .5 W with CPU stopped. The RS-232 interface power is generated on card, so only +5V power is required by the 4C28.
